Air Conditioning Energy Performance of Building Certificates

Commercial Energy Performance Certificates [EPC] (EPC Certificate) have been introduced to help improve the energy efficiency of buildings. The Commercial Energy Performance Certificate is part of a series of measures that have been introduced across Europe to reflect legislation which will help reduce buildings Carbon emissions.

Many commercial buildings have air conditioning systems and will require a Commercial Energy Performance Certificate inspection by law. This will be carried out by a fully accredited energy assessor.  Our Inspections will only be carried out by our accredited and suitably qualified personnel.

The skills that are required are refined in the National Occupational Standards, accredited by BESCA and HVCA governing bodies.

The commercial energy performance certificates (EPC Certificate) are not generated from software. The inspection and assessment follows all of the specified guidelines described in the TM44 Inspection of Air Conditioning Systems published by CIBSE [chartered institution of Building Services Engineers]

Following an energy performance inspection, commercial managers and anyone who are in control of the air conditioning systems will understand how the directive and regulations operate, how to apply the regulations, what their responsibilities are, and at what intervals the Commercial Energy Performance  Certificates are required.

The Energy Performance Certificate will highlight the following

  • Systems where efficiency is clearly impaired due to faults, neglect or misuse
  • Systems whose efficiency is lower than the current minimum provisions for commercial buildings
  • Systems that are acceptably efficient.

There are penalties for not having a Commercial Energy performance certificate

Local authorities usually by their trading standards officer  are responsible for enforcing the requirements relating to air conditioning inspection reports. A copy of air conditioning report can be requested by an enforcement officer at any time up to six months after the last day for compliance  with the obligation to make it available

Failure to provide a report when required will result in a penalty charge notice and the need to have an Energy performance certificate put into place.
